Liars’ Contest Rules
Program Description: The Stone Soup Storytelling Festival Liars’ Contest is a competition to see who can tell the best “whopper” or “tall tale.”
Contestants will be selected in the order in which they signed up, so sign up as quickly as you can.
NOTE: There is a $5 entry fee, payable in cash when your name is called. Just bring it with you. You won’t pay unless you get called by the M.C. to tell your story.
On the day of the contest, the Master of Ceremonies will begin with the first person who signed up. If you are not in position when your name is called, the M.C. will go to the next person on the list and you will have missed your chance.
To be eligible to win, the story you tell must have some element central to the story that not only is not true, but could not possibly be true. Stories must be appropriate for general audiences of all-ages.
Entries may be original compositions or they may be based on folklore or other material from the public domain. Copyrighted stories are not allowed in the contest, unless the teller is the copyright holder.
Stories must be ten minutes or less.
Judging Criteria: (1) Originality, (2) Performance/Stage Presence, (3) Overall entertainment value, and (4) Timing.
Prizes: 1st Place ($200); 2nd Place ($100); 3rd Place ($50)
